Following the invitation from Sartorius, headquartered in Göttingen, students from various schools in South Korea visited the XLAB to gain practical experience in the field of molecular biology experimental methods. This invitation is now issued every year - a tradition develops. Sartorius has been active in South Korea for over 30 years and operates one of the largest biopharmaceutical production facilities in the world there. The participants visited the experimental laboratories and had a varied supporting program. The experimental method training provided insights into molecular biology techniques, such as the investigation of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) in bacteria at the DNA and protein level.
In addition to the practical laboratory experiences, the participants also explored the Sartorius headquarters campus in Göttingen as well as the Application Center and the Guxhagen location. This year's trip to Germany ended with a visit to the Boehringer site in Ingelheim, the world's leading research-based pharmaceutical company with around 9,800 employees in the areas of research, development, production and administration. Many of the participants will look for a career in the pharmaceutical industry after graduating.
Tradition was also very important when it came to culinary catering. All Asian cuisine specialties were integral parts of the meals. The event was a complete success and will be repeated in 2026.
