X-ray Structural Analysis

Students determine molecular structures from X-ray data.

The XLAB is part of a Europe-wide initiative to connect teachers and researchers in the field of crystallography. In cooperation with Professor Dietmar Stalke's working group at the University of Göttingen, materials were created that enable pupils to independently evaluate X-ray experiments. XLAB lecturer Dr. Erhard Irmer and Dr. Michael Bodensteiner, crystallographer at the University of Regensburg, showed 35 student teachers the opportunities available to them as part of their research-oriented laboratory internship on 8 May 2024. The first training course for teachers will follow on 13.06.2024.

In the following student courses, students will be able to carry out structure determination from X-ray data themselves by arrangement: Structure elucidation of an organic solid substance, Aspirin - synthesis and analysis, tea and caffeine.
