As one of the highlights of this year's ISC course in Molecular Medicine, participants visited the working group of Prof. Dr. Markus Bohnsack at the Institute of Molecular Biology at Göttingen University Medical Center. The visit not only offered exciting insights into current research projects, but also provided an opportunity to further deepen the ongoing cooperation between the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1565 and XLAB. Professor Bohnsack began by introducing himself and his scientific career – from his early years as a student to his doctorate and his current position as institute director and spokesperson for SFB 1565. This was followed by a lively question and answer session, in which the students showed great interest in the practical and personal aspects of a research career. Questions such as the following were discussed: How does research actually work on a day-to-day basis? What steps lead to a career in molecular biology? How can you recognize a good master's or Ph.D. program? How does a stay abroad work? The open and practical atmosphere of the discussion motivated the participants to pursue their own scientific ambitions. This visit not only imparted knowledge, but also strengthened enthusiasm for biomedical research—a successful conclusion to the ISC course and an important step in the further cooperation between SFB 1565 and XLAB.
