ISC 2026 – Quantum Physics

The participants conducted key experiments in quantum physics themselves.

The Hanbury-Brown-Twiss experiment (HBT experiment) confirms the quantum nature of photons. This experiment is conducted under controlled conditions in the dark. Given the high summer temperatures outside, this and other experiments dedicated to the postulates of quantum mechanics were carried out with a certain degree of comfort. From quantum properties, the course moved on to the question of how quantum objects can be controlled and used, for example, in quantum computing. The participants were particularly interested in quantum cryptography. Over the course of the week, they went beyond what Albert Einstein knew about quantum mechanics and immersed themselves in an exciting, cutting-edge field of research and work.

Dr. Murat Sivis, a research associate in Professor Ropers’s research group at the Department of Physics, demonstrated an application of quantum mechanics in scientific research to the participants during a lab tour on the topic “Quantum entanglement in ultrafast transmission electron microscopy.”
