With chemistry into a sustainable future

The Chemical Industry Fund (FCI) is sponsoring a Science Camp where wood becomes an innovative super material.

Although wood is an environmentally friendly material due to sustainable forestry in Germany and a good CO2 balance, it has properties that are unfavorable for many applications. For example, its anisotropic swelling behavior means that a bicycle frame made of natural wood would warp in the rain. Various modifications give the wood completely new properties: it becomes harder, hydrophobic and even transparent! The Science Camp will take place from October 24-28, 2022. Students will be able to register individually for the one-week camp starting in June.
