XLAB has been organizing International Science Camps (ISC) for interested students from all over the world since summer 2003. To participate in our ISC 2020, you must be at least 17 years old. We offer chemistry, biology and physics courses taught by scientists from XLAB, the university and other research institutions in Göttingen.

You will perform experiments in small groups of two or three people, supported by our scientific staff, in order to gain hands-on experience of real science. Additionally, some sophisticated experiments and techniques, such as NMR spectroscopy and X-ray analysis, will be demonstrated by experts to give you an insight into higher level scientific research.

On weekends and in the evenings a cultural and social program is arranged. Social contacts among students of different cultural background are as important as experimental work and scientific learning.

Göttingen is known for its university and is located in the southern part of Lower Saxony in the middle of Germany. The XLAB is embedded in the science campus of the University of Göttingen. All university laboratories, other research facilities and the cafeteria are within a few minutes’ walk of XLAB.

English is the common language of science and the language used during the camp. Participants have to be able to speak and write English fluently. To ensure the best experience for all participants, we reserve the right to test English skills in an interview.

The Science Camp lasts 3 weeks. Courses begin on August 3 in the morning. Overseas participants should arrive on Saturday, August 1 to allow a day to rest. All other participants should arrive on Sunday, August 2 if possible. The camp ends on Sunday, August 23 after breakfast (departure day).

Course fee

The course fee of € 3,200 per person is all-inclusive, except for the travel expenses. Payment is due within three weeks of receiving the invoice. If payment is not made, we reserve the right to award the place to another applicant.

To apply for a scholarship, please contact organizations such as the German Academic Exchange Service, large companies in your area, your school or university, or charitable foundations in your city/country. Unfortunately, we cannot grant scholarships ourselves for legal reasons.

Participants will be accommodated in shared rooms of two or three beds in a family-run guest house just five minutes by bus from XLAB. The guesthouse is surrounded by beautiful countryside which is perfect for jogging and hiking. Internet access is available in all rooms. Laundry costs are €5.00 per laundry bag (3 kg).
