Isolation and characterization of a solid organic acid

With a well known substance (citric acid) as an example some of the techniques for the characterization of substances will be presented.
Following the automated C,H,N elementary analysis the molecular mass of the substance will be determined  by an acid / base titration. A mass spectroscopic analysis will provide definite results.
The course may be extended by a thin layer chromatographic characterization of the substance
