Dyes and staining

This modular course provides a diverse experimental approach to the chemistry of dyes. The students become acquainted with different classes of dyes (Azo-, Triphenylmethan- and carbonyl dyes) and carry out experiments with redox dyes. The difference between direct and reactive staining will be examined. As an example of reactive staining methods the staining with Indigo and Alizarin will be applied. Furthermore the students will be introduced to photometry.

Recommended:
From grade 11 on
